A few health benefits of apigenin

Feb 28, 2021

Just because it requires a lot of chewing and is a good source of water, doesn't mean you should appreciate it.

Apigenin contains some common vitamins and minerals.

Straws alone, for example, can provide 25 percent of your daily requirement for vitamin K.

Apigenin contains 5% of the daily value of vitamin A, folic acid and potassium.

Small amounts of calcium, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus and B vitamins.

Apigenin is also high in fiber -- about 1 gram per stem.

If your teeth are stuffed with crushed apigenin, you may have noticed.

It may help fight cancer

It is rich in antioxidants, which can help remove cancer-promoting free radicals from cells.

In fact, apigenin and luteolin, two potential anticancer compounds, have been studied in apigenin extracts.

Apigenin destroys free radicals in the body and may promote the death of cancer cells.

Apigenin also seems to promote autophagy, the process your body uses to get rid of malfunctioning cells or ingredients that help prevent disease.

Luteolin is a flavonoid in luteolin, which has potential as an anticancer drug.

In one study, researchers found that supplementation with luteolin reduced the incidence of tumors in mice by nearly half.

Apigenin slowed the development of other tumors.

And if that's not enough, eating two stems a week can reduce your risk of lung cancer by up to 60 percent, according to a Chinese study.

Other studies have suggested apigenin may be effective against breast, ovarian, pancreatic, liver and prostate cancers.

Celery,

2 It can reduce inflammation associated with chronic diseases

Its seed extract has been used for a long time and its anti-inflammatory properties have been studied.

Historically, various apigenins and their seed extracts have been used to treat inflammation.

Some studies have shown apigenin seed extract to be as effective as aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen in treating arthritis symptoms.

It may also have a pain-relieving effect.

Taking NSAIDs may cause damage to the stomach.

In addition, in 2008 researchers at the University of Illinois found that the luteolin in apigenin significantly reduced inflammation in the brain.

It may have the potential to treat neurodegenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease.

3. It reduces the risk of heart disease

Eating this crunchy vegetable may protect your heart by improving biomarkers for common heart disease.

In a 2009 study of rats, apigenin extract was found to have significantly lower blood lipids, including total cholesterol, LDL "bad" cholesterol and triglycerides, after 60 days of use.

It's an interesting paradox that apigenin, despite its high sodium content, lowers blood pressure.

A mixture of celery vegetable juice and honey has long been used successfully for this purpose in China.

In South Africa, vinegar mixed with apigenin juice is used to help reduce high blood pressure in pregnant women.

4. It can support male fertility

A 2017 review of 16 studies on apigenin and fertility found that apigenin protects against substances that can damage sperm count.

Similarly, a 2015 study on the effects of apigenin on fertility in mice found that apigenin leaf extract may increase sperm count for 30 days.

This may be because it appears to inhibit free radicals, which can have an adverse effect on fertility.

However, it has not been determined how much apigenin is needed to see these benefits.

5. It boosts the health of the gut and digestive system

Apigenin is rich in insoluble fiber, which increases satiety, AIDS weight loss, and can also help promote regularity.

In other words, it can prevent and treat constipation and help clean the gut.

In a 2010 study, researchers looked at the therapeutic effects of apigenin extract on stomach ulcers.

They studied the overall protective effects of apigenin on the gastrointestinal system in rats.

The gastric injury before gastric ulcer was significantly reduced in rats pretreated with apigenin extract.

The researchers think this may be due to apigenin's antioxidant properties, which have been confirmed in apigenin and other health studies.
